It’s not every day that two independent powerhouses join forces, making MURS’s partnership with Strange Music in 2014 a monumental moment for hip-hop. As Tech N9ne and CEO Travis O’Guin were building Strange Music in Kansas City, MURS was building his own empire in California through his independent-focused Paid Dues Festival alongside a myriad of stellar collaborative and solo efforts. The renowned and respected emcee’s debut album Have A Nice Life, follow-up Captain California, critically-acclaimed ¡MursDay! (a collaborative project with label mates ¡MAYDAY!), and world record for “Longest Rap Marathon” have helped cement MURS and Strange as independent juggernauts.
